ARTIST'S STATEMENT
|
My works are
coloured oriental paintings with traditional colour powder
on three layers of Soon paper, a traditional Korean paper.
To express a clear and refined sense of Korean colour,
I repeatedly dot and paint my works with special tools
and brushes. It offers viewers clear and gentle and also
profound impressions from my paintings; this is not quite
possible through oil painting.
When I first began my works 'the way to HangKeum-ri' and
'Waiting', I had a studio in HangKeum-ri - a small village
about an hour away from Seoul. These works represent a
surreal world with an attraction to nature and a distant
feeling towards normal daily life. The work 'HangKeum-ri'
reminds me of my hometown. A bus passing with dust behind
it, a steam engine locomotive that does not exist anymore
and small houses gathered around a mountain - all brought
'waiting', 'nostalgia' and 'yearning' in my paintings.
These paintings should allow viewers to have the same
sweet and nostalgic thoughts about their own home in a
peaceful and sentimental way.
