Art
Scene Warehouse's large space was selected in 2003 and underwent
a complete renovation of the former garment factory especially for
the Gallery. The venue is Art Scene China's second venue in Shanghai.
For information about the first venue, located in a quaint Shanghainese
villa in Shanghai's French Concession area, visit: www.artscenechina.com.
Space: Art Scene Warehouse is a chic, minimalist
space filled with avant-garde Chinese art by some of China’s
most exciting contemporary artists. The “artsy” large
and open 1,800 square metre space has 4.3 – 6 metre high ceilings
and is probably the largest gallery in China. It is a stunning,
modern backdrop for artwork: a cutting edge white-on-white gallery,
where white, square edged Bauhaus-style furniture that looks like
art itself is displayed against white walls. Artwork hangs between
a neat colonnade of white pillars that runs in rows down the length
of the warehouse, pausing here and there to create little enclaves.
Events:
Art Scene Warehouse sometimes hosts private events for corporates
and individuals. Walls within the venue can be moved to cater for
events, with a maximum capacity of over 1,000 persons. In the past,
the Art Scene Warehouse's venue has hosted events by such companies
as Nokia and BMW, as well as charity events, fashion shows, product
launches and the like. To enquire about hosting an event at Art
Scene Warehouse, you can email us at: events@artscenewarehouse.com.
Location: The Gallery is situated in the Suzhou
Creek “Artists’ Quarter” of the city. This part
of Shanghai has been rapidly gaining national and international
prominence as the “artistic” part of Shanghai, with
many artists’ studios nearby, etc.
Exhibitions: Art Scene Warehouse regularly holds
new exhibitions. The 1,800 square metre size of the space makes
the Gallery unique because it can stage large-scale important exhibitions
of 10+ artists, much like a museum but in a private space.
Artists:
Art Scene Warehouse presents a wide diversity of artists and artworks
for visitors. The artists featured at the gallery range from famous
and internationally exhibited Chinese contemporary artists exciting
to younger and talented emerging Chinese artists. And the artworks
range from oil and acrylic paintings to ink and gauche paintings
to mixed media, photography, sculptures, digital video and installations.
Some exhibitions at Art Scene Warehouse combine internationally
reputed non-Chinese artists with Mainland and international Chinese
artists – presenting an interesting opportunity for international
artistic dialogue on a global stage.
